The Art of Paper Cutting

The Art of Paper Cutting

SKU: 4050

This class will introduce students to basic paper-cutting techniques using the Polish Folk Art of Wycinanki for inspiration. Wycinanki is a stylized art form with agricultural roots, inspired by nature, and is characterized by wild and rich color, pattern, and often symmetry. We will be working with traditional nature-based motifs of birds, animals, trees, leaves and flowers while learning the required planning, folding, cutting, layering and gluing techniques as we go.

We will create 2 paper-cut artworks.  Each project should take 2 class periods to complete.  The first lesson will be highly structured to facilitate the learning of the basic and necessary techniques.  In the second lesson you will build upon what you have learned, choosing your own subject matter and design elements while working in a natural motif.
